Obituary of Barbara Carrington

Barbara Jean Carrington passed away Saturday September 5, 2020 in Turlock, CA after a long battle with dementia.

She was born on July 12, 1935 in Phoenix, AZ to Teofilo & Amy Orani. She was the eldest of 8 children. Barbara grew up in Stockton, CA where she met her first husband Melvin Weatherred. They were married in Carson City, NV on September 13, 1952 while Melvin was with the 82nd Airborne of Ft. Bragg, NC.

They lived at Ft. Bragg for approximately 10 years before returning to Stockton, CA in 1961 to raise their family. While living in Stockton Barbara’s sons were picked up for Sunday School by the Christian Missionary Alliance Church bus ministry. This encouraged both Barbara and Melvin to attend. They both decided to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and be baptized.

In 1968, Melvin took a job in Patterson, CA and moved the family. Upon moving to Patterson, it was important for the family to find a church. They attended Patterson Assembly of God where Melvin became a licensed Assembly of God minister.

In 1971, Barbara and Melvin began attending Bethel Temple in Turlock, CA. The church was having revival services and Barbara was able to bring her mother, two sisters and sister-in-law to accept Jesus Christ as their savior. After discovering a tumor behind his eye, Melvin passed away in July 1979.

In 1983, Barbara began dating then later married Robert Carrington, senior pastor of Valley Christian Center in Ceres, CA. During their ministry they started an outside ministry for prisons called God’s Doorkeepers which provided packets containing the Good Word of God’s scripture. These booklets helped many find their way to Jesus Christ. Even after retirement, both Barbara and Robert continued on with ministry until Robert’s passing in 2009. Barbara continued to follow the Lord and attended Calvary Temple (now The House Modesto) with her family.

Barbara is survived by her three sons: Tony Weatherred (wife Carla), Robert Weatherred (wife Michell), Johnny Weatherred. Her four grandchildren: Yvonne Blake (husband James), Bethany Amaya (husband Michael), Jenna Weatherred, and Jonathan Weatherred. Her six great-grandchildren: Kennedi and Harper Amaya, Emma, Declan and Dylan Blake, and Amy Weatherred. her brother and sisters: Betty Tecson, David Ayson, Carol Barney, Donna Olivas, and Joyce Tracy along with several more nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by: her first husband Melvin Weatherred, her brothers Robert (Bobby) Orani, Leonard Ayson, and her second husband Robert Carrington.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to the Ninevah or Kid’s Space ministries at The House Modesto. 1601 Coffee Rd, Modesto, CA 95355 or to the Alzheimer’s Association 225 N Michigan Ave., FL 17, Chicago, IL 60601.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions we will be having an immediate family only gravesite service (includes siblings) later this month.

It is our hope should some of the COVID-19 restrictions be lifted at a later date that we can have a celebration of life for Barbara Carrington at a later date. Thank you all for your understanding.
